个人简介

Shiki Yagai was born in 1975 in Yamanashi, Japan. He received his Ph.D. from Ritsumeikan University in 2002 on self-assembly of synthetic chlorophylls under the guidance of Prof. Hitoshi Tamiaki. Soon after, he became an Assistant Professor at Chiba University and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 after serving concurrently as a JST-PRESTO researcher. In July 2017, he was appointed as a Full Professor in the same institute. His research interests include supramolecular polymers and related materials of functional dyes, π-conjugated and photochromic molecules, and their application to mechanochromic luminescence and organic electronics.

报告摘要

Supramolecular polymers are emerging polymeric materials owing to their reversible bonding. However, to compete over covalent counterparts, development of supramolecular polymers with well-defined higher-order structures (topologies) are desired. We have addressed this issue by specifically designed two molecular systems, namely barbituric acid systems1) (Fig. 1) and scissors-shaped molecules2) (Fig. 2). Both molecular systems exhibit hierarchical self-assembly to generate "intrinsic curvature" in curvature diameter of around 10-30 nm. By utilizing these curved supramolecular polymerization systems, we have succeeded to  prepare diverse mesoscale topologies from toroid, helicoid, wave, random coil, tube3), and even interlocked rings (polycatenanes, Fig. 1).
