On Sep 4th, 2019, Asso. Prof. Juntao Ye of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was selected as a Winner of the 2019 Blavatnik Regional Awards for Young Scientists in Chemistry by the Blavatnik Family Foundation and the New York Academy of Sciences. The awarding ceremony was held during the Academy’s Annual Gala at the Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York City on Nov 11th, 2019. 

In 2019, the Blavatnik Regional Awards received 137 nominations from 20 academic institutions in three scientific disciplinary categories: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemistry. One winner in each category would be awarded funds for making important contributions to scientific research and discovery early in their careers.

Asso. Prof. Juntao Ye was recognized for developing novel synthetic methods that directly and selectively functionalize unactivated Carbon-Hydrogen bonds. These new methods provide more efficient and cheaper ways to convert readily available chemicals into value-added and pharmaceutically relevant products, than currently available methods allow.
