Date: 2019-10-10

At the beginning of the new semester, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering held the school orientation for New International Students on Sep 20th, 2019, and the class meeting of 2019 fall semester for international undergraduates on Sep 25th, 2019.

SCCE welcomed seven new international students this year, including four PhD students, two master students and one undergraduates. The school orientation was composed of six parts: About SCCE and SJTU, Study at SCCE, Life in SJTU, Residence Permit and Visa, Safety Matters Most and Q&A. Through the meeting, students fully understood the history of SJTU and SCCE, scholarship assessment, postgraduate training and management, how to utilize library resources and so on. As the National Day holidays  are around the corner, the “Safety Matters Most” part reminded students about personal safety, property safety, information safety and laboratory safety.

On Sep 25th, 2019, SCCE held the class meeting of 2019 fall semester for international undergraduates.

This year most international undergraduates reach their senior year, so the class meeting mainly introduced how to make a four-year plan so as to meet the challenges after graduation. The priority task of the freshman year was to adapt to college life and collect all kinds of information. The sophomore year was the time for preliminary plans. In the junior year, students should start preparing for different goals. For example, those who aim to seek for jobs should take internships during summer and winter holidays, those who intended to continue studying are supposed to participate in research programs and prepare for various certificates at the same time. As for senior students, they should have more knowledge of different options and learn to prepare CV and application materials.

Afterwards, four senior students had in-depth communication with other students on course information, study methods and so on.

By September 2019, there have been 55 international students in SCCE, including 40 PhD students, 5 master students and 10 undergraduate students, who came from Ethiopia, Angola, Pakistan, Russia, France, Korea, Malaysia, the United States, Japan, Greece, Iran and India (sorted by pinyin).
