In 1997, Zheng Sixun, professor and doctoral tutor, received his PhD degree in polymer chemistry and physics from University of Science and Technology of China, where he was appointed as teaching assistant, lecturer (1995), associate professor (1998) of the department of polymer science and engineering since July 1992. As a visiting scholar, he went to the department of chemical engineering of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1996 and 1998 respectively. In January 1999, sponsored by Deutsche Forschungs-Gemeinschaft, he went to the department of physics of Deutsches Kunststoff-Institut, Darmstadt, Germany and Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, Germany for his postdoctoral research. In September 1999, he transferred to the department of chemistry of University of California at Irvine, USA, and became a postdoctoral researcher of National Science Foundation (NSF).

In September 2001, he joined the Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a professor and doctoral tutor of polymer science and engineering. He has undertaken many scientific research project of national natural science foundation or on provincial level. In 2002, he was sponsored by “the funding scheme of the ministry of education for excellent young university teachers”; in 2004, he was honored the title of Shanghai "Dawn Scholars" ; in 2009, he received the Shanghai "Yucai" award. He has published more than 140 SCI papers in international academic journals like Advanced Materials, Chemistry of Materials, Macromolecules, Journal of Physical Chemistry, Polymer, Polymer Chemistry and so on. His paper has been quoted (exclude self-citation) by his international counterparts for more than 2200 times. Now, he presides over a key project and a general program of the Natural Science Foundation of China. And at the same time, he participates in national major fundamental research program held by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
